The RÄVIK is one of the most powerful electric surfboards in the world. It's also one of the most accessible. With the right technique, most riders are up and riding confidently within their first session. This guide walks you through everything you need to know before you hit the water.

Step 1: Getting Started

Before you get in the water, get familiar with the remote. The RÄVIK uses a handheld wireless remote to control speed — thumb up increases throttle, thumb down reduces it. Practice the motion on land until it feels natural.

Watch Awake's official Getting Started tutorial for a full walkthrough of the board, remote, and pre-ride setup:

Step 2: The Water Start

The water start is the most important skill to master first. Start in shallow, flat water. Lie on the board, grip the rails, and apply gentle throttle. As the board accelerates, push up to your knees, then gradually to your feet. Keep your weight centred and your knees slightly bent.

Step 3: Riding Position

Once you're on your feet, stance is everything. Feet shoulder-width apart, front foot angled slightly forward, back foot across the tail. Keep your knees bent and your weight low. Look where you want to go — the board follows your gaze.

Step 4: Beach and Dock Starts

Once you're comfortable with water starts, you can launch directly from a beach or dock. These techniques are faster and more convenient for regular sessions.

Step 5: Full Speed

When you're confident on your feet, it's time to open up the throttle. The RÄVIK reaches up to 56 km/h — the key to riding at full speed is staying relaxed, keeping your weight centred, and trusting the board.

Step 6: Carving

Carving is where the RÄVIK truly comes alive. Shift your weight onto your heels for a backside carve, or onto your toes for a frontside carve. Start with gentle, wide turns and progressively tighten them as your confidence builds.
